Charles Carberry, Show Director


Charles Carberry, has over 25 years of experience in the Horticulture and Landscape Architecture industry. He is a practicing Landscape Architect with Fidelity Investments managing design of over 10,000 acres of landscapes across 10 campuses in the US. He is a proven leader capable of infusing momentum towards any project goal and a design principal that set him apart from the industry mainstream.

Great Island Design began in 1993 as a design and consulting firm.  Charles was the founder and former President of the firm.  Charles has worked with institutions all over New England.  His services have included: Strategic Plans, Horticultural Consulting, Site and Campus Plans, Funding Strategies, Event Management, Construction Management and other necessary services in the landscape development process. One of his most notable clients was the late actor Anthony Quinn. Charles worked with Mr. Quinn for over 2 years molding and shaping his property in beautiful Bristol Rhode Island.

Charles had been the Show Designer for the very successful RI Spring Flower and Garden show for over 20 years.  He worked with the show from its inception and was a key player in the success of the show. The show was nominated as one of the top 100 events in the county by Travel and Leisure Magazine.

Charles holds a bachelors degree in Landscape Architecture an associate’s degree in Architecture, LEED Certified and was a Tanner Fellow at the Harvard Business School.  He is active member in Rotary, The Rhode Island Nurseryman and Landscape Association and the Rhode Island Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.  In 2005 Charles was featured in People Places and Plants as a Rhode Island Success Story. 

Michelle Sousa Peay, Show Designer


Michelle is an award winning garden designer and the co owner of Metamorphosis Design. located in picturesque Westport, Massachusetts. Together Shelly her husband Brian and their two golden retrievers Bell and Peony have created some very special garden environments and event experiences.

Michelle started her career at Sylvan Nursery at age 14. She attended the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Michelle co-owned The Magic Garden of Tiverton and “spun” off to start Metamorphosis Design in 2000. Michelle participated in the Rhode Island Spring Flower Show.

Shelly and Brian live for and love outdoor living. We respect and nurture nature and all of its creatures. We are looking forward to creating a spectacular experience for you to enjoy at The New England Outdoor Living & Garden Show. I am proud to be part of the team and look forward to your visit!

Karen Brol, Director of TICKET Sales

Karen brings nearly 30 years of event experience to the New England Outdoor Living & Garden Show.

Karen fell in love with all things event related while acting on a whim when asked to work security for a Billy Joel concert. The moment she discovered that you can work AND have fun with events she said good-bye to her cubicle and never looked back. 

Karen spent her first 10 years working for SMG, the World Leader in Venue Management. She began at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY, and then moved to RI as a member of the startup crew to open the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence.  During her time with SMG, Karen managed multiple departments and worked in several different capacities on all concerts, public shows, trade shows and sporting events.

After leaving the Convention Center, Karen was appointed Admissions Manager at Roger Williams Park Zoo, RI’s largest tourist attraction. During her time at the Zoo, Karen enjoyed serving on several committees and being a part of many significant Zoo improvements. With steadfast focus on providing an outstanding guest experience and improving internal operations, she renovated the main entrance policies and procedures and overhauled the admissions area.  Karen loved her years at the Zoo, but eventually ended up having a couple of monkeys of her own, Zach and Dylan. 

In an effort to meet the changing needs of her family and her desire to continue in the event industry, she opened her own business, Brol Enterprises, Inc.  Brol Enterprises, Inc. currently manages several large public and trade show events throughout New England. 

Karen holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the College of Saint Rose.  She has been recognized for excellence in the event industry and was honored to be presented with the Rose Award from the Providence/Warwick CVB.

She lives in Bristol with her husband Bob and their two children.  When Karen is not working at an event, she will likely be found on a soccer field cheering her boys on.

Jennifer Sunderland, Vendor Sales Director


Jennifer is an entrepreneurial and innovative professional with a passion for and over a decade of experience working with organizations that support and promote the arts in Rhode Island. I am highly skilled in all aspects of public event management.  She demonstrates a true passion for these events and has garnered respect as an event producer due to her high levels of organization, her enthusiasm, her marketing skills, and willingness for and expectation of teamwork.  Additionally, she is highly adept at quickly and calmly resolving a wide variety of issues in an ever-changing event environment.

Her current contracts include the City of Newport, The Broadway Business Association, The Tiverton Four Corners Merchants Association, The Edward King House & The AOH, Newport.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a double major in Art History and Studio Art & Design from the University of Rhode Island in Kingston and an Associate in Fine Arts with a Visual Arts Concentration from The Community College of Rhode Island in Warwick. She lives in Portsmouth, RI with her husband Christian and two daughters, Lily & Violet.


Norm Fracassa, Assistant Director

Norm is a landscape architect in northern New England where he is President of Fracassa Designworks since 2008. Based on the beautiful seacoast of New Hampshire, the company specializes in consultation, landscape design, and construction services for both residential and municipal projects from Portsmouth to Lake Winnipesaukee.

Norm also invests heavily in his city of Dover, New Hampshire designing vibrant public spaces and advising on decisions related to city planning and community services. He updated the Recreation Master Plan for the city in 2009 reviewing over 40 city parks and athletic facilities, and assisted in the Master Plan Land Use chapters in 2007 and 2014.

Currently, Norm is the Vice-Chair of the Cochecho Waterfront Development Advisory Committee – a team appointed to direct the development of 30 acres of mixed-use commercial and residential waterfront property in the heart of the city. A member of the design sub-committee, he also assisted in the development of the park design guidelines and the developer selection process for this significant project.

Norm holds a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Rhode Island and is a member of the New Hampshire Landscape Association.

In his spare time, Norm enjoys live music, coaching youth sports, relaxing with friends and living life in New Hampshire with his wife Amy, son Brayden, and daughter Sophia.
